Anusha Mani on Acting Debut in ‘Hai Junoon’: “Never Saw Myself as an Actor, But Open to More Offers Now”

Renowned Bollywood playback singer Anusha Mani, known for chart-topping hits like “Lehrein” (Aisha, 2010), “Tera Rastaa Chhodoon Na” (Chennai Express, 2013), and “Gulaabo” (Shaandaar, 2015), has made a surprising shift in her artistic journey with her acting debut in the recently released web series ‘Hai Junoon’.

Speaking about the transition, Mani admitted that the experience was as unexpected for her as it was for her fans. “I never saw myself as an actor, never aspired to be one. But it was one of the most exhilarating experiences of my life,” the 40-year-old shared.

Despite initial reluctance rooted in self-doubt, Mani embraced the opportunity and now feels motivated to explore acting further—while maintaining her commitment to music. “I am very keen on pursuing this further. But the world still needs to know that Anusha Mani is an actor too. That said, music is and will always be my first love, so that will be priority for me,” she said.

The singer acknowledged the challenges artists face when crossing over into new domains. “Today, singers are acting and actors are singing – there’s criticism everywhere. We don’t live in a society that gives second chances or constructive criticism,” she said, emphasizing that her focus remains on personal growth and the support of her loved ones.

When asked whether her background in the film industry helped ease her transition into acting, Mani said it was a mixed experience. “Yes and no,” she explained. “I know people in the music industry, but the world of acting is totally different. I didn’t know anyone from that part of the industry. I got this audition because they were looking for singers for the role.”

She also credited her management team for playing a key role in making her acting debut smoother. “Having a management, helping me on set, going through my contract, negotiating for me and managing dates, helped a lot.”

With ‘Hai Junoon’ now streaming and audiences responding positively to her performance, Anusha Mani is ready to take on new opportunities, proving that creative reinvention can happen at any stage of an artist’s career.
