Jaipur: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has secured a resounding victory in the recently held by-elections for Panchayati Raj and urban local bodies across Rajasthan. Of the 6 district council seats contested, BJP candidates won in 5. In the 18 Panchayat Samiti wards, BJP claimed 12, while Congress could manage only 3.
In urban local body bypolls, BJP registered wins in 10 out of 12 municipal wards. A major setback for the Congress was witnessed in the constituency of State Congress President Govind Singh Dotasara, where the party lost a key municipal seat. In contrast, BJP retained strongholds, including areas linked to former Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje.
Defeat in Dotasara’s Constituency
In Ward No. 9 of the Laxmangarh Municipality, part of Dotasara’s constituency, BJP candidate Sarita Sharma defeated Congress nominee Vandana Sharma by a margin of 365 votes. This defeat in the Congress state chief’s home turf is seen as a significant blow to the party's local leadership.
Congress Loses MP Sanjana Jatav’s Ward
Another major loss for Congress came from Alwar, where BJP’s Munni Bai won the District Council Ward 29 seat by 1,280 votes. This ward was previously represented by Congress MP Sanjana Jatav before she assumed her parliamentary role, resulting in the vacancy.
BJP Maintains Grip in Vasundhara Raje’s Region
In Jhalawar District Council’s Ward No. 5, BJP’s Kailash Chand Verma defeated Congress candidate Manoj Kumar by 1,174 votes. In Jhalrapatan Municipality Ward 13, BJP’s Pulkit Agrawal won over Congress’s Anubha Tiwari by 402 votes. However, in Akelera Municipality Ward 5, Congress’s Lalita Bai managed to defeat BJP’s Pooja Jatav by 117 votes.
BJP Flag Flies High in Balotra
In Kalyanpura Panchayat Samiti Ward No. 10, located in Balotra, BJP candidate Krishna Kanwar secured victory by 14 votes. This seat had fallen vacant following the demise of Samiti Pradhan Ummed Singh Araba. BJP retained its hold in the region through this win.
Independent Victory in Alwar’s Malakhera
In Malakhera Panchayat Samiti Ward 16, an independent candidate Bhomraj defeated BJP’s Bharat Singh Jat by 610 votes. This was one of the few contests where an independent candidate managed to prevail over major party contenders.

In Zone 13 of Suratgarh Panchayat Samiti, BJP’s Poonaram Meghwal defeated Congress’s Lekhram Nayak by 418 votes, further solidifying BJP’s presence in the region.
