Fisheries Department Seizes Pickup Carrying 1,200 Kg of Fish During Ban Period

Jaipur: In a major enforcement action, the inspection team of the Rajasthan Fisheries Department has confiscated a pickup vehicle illegally transporting approximately 1,200 kilograms of fish during the seasonal fishing ban.

Fisheries Department Director Mrs. Sanchita Vishnoi confirmed that the vehicle was intercepted while attempting to sell the fish during the officially prohibited breeding season. Acting promptly, the inspection team disposed of the seized fish by burying them in a pit to prevent their sale or consumption.

Mrs. Vishnoi noted that this marks the department’s first seizure during the current ban period.

As per state government directives, fishing and the trade or exchange of freshwater fish are strictly prohibited from June 16 to August 31 to ensure fish conservation during the monsoon breeding season. The department has warned that violators will face strict legal action.

The seasonal ban is enforced annually to protect fish species during their breeding cycle and ensure sustainable aquatic biodiversity in Rajasthan’s freshwater reservoirs.
