Indore Man Killed by Hitmen Hired by Wife During Honeymoon in Meghalaya; 4 Arrested

Shillong/Ghazipur, June 9 — In a shocking case that has sent ripples across the country, Indore resident Raja Raghuvanshi was allegedly murdered during his honeymoon in Meghalaya by hitmen hired by his wife, police confirmed on Monday.

According to Meghalaya Director General of Police (DGP) Idashisha Nongrang, Raja’s wife, Sonam, surrendered to authorities in Uttar Pradesh's Ghazipur and was subsequently arrested. Three of her alleged accomplices were also taken into custody following overnight raids in Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh.

“One person was picked up from UP, and another two accused were apprehended from Indore by the Special Investigation Team (SIT),” said DGP Nongrang. “The operation is still continuing in Madhya Pradesh to catch some more persons involved in the crime.”

The murder took place while the couple was vacationing in Meghalaya, and police sources say the conspiracy was premeditated. Preliminary interrogation of the arrested individuals has confirmed that Sonam orchestrated the plan and hired the hitmen herself.

Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma praised the Meghalaya Police for their swift action in solving the high-profile murder case.

“Within 7 days a major breakthrough has been achieved by the #MeghalayaPolice in the Raja murder case… 3 assailants who are from Madhya Pradesh have been arrested, female has surrendered and operation still on to catch 1 more assailant… well done,” he wrote in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

Police are continuing the investigation and have not ruled out the possibility of more arrests. Further details about the motive and financial transactions involved in the murder-for-hire plot are expected to emerge as the investigation progresses.
