Raipur: Chhattisgarh Health Minister Shyam Bihari Jaiswal has withdrawn the controversial directive regarding media management in government medical colleges — a move welcomed by Mrs. Mamta Singh, State Secretary of the Chhattisgarh Journalist Union.
The decision comes after widespread criticism from
journalist associations across the state. The earlier order issued by the
Health Department was perceived as an attack on press freedom, prompting strong
opposition from media professionals and coverage in numerous newspapers
highlighting their concern.
In response to this collective outcry, Health Minister
Jaiswal announced the immediate suspension of the media management directive in
Raipur's government medical colleges. He emphasized that the decision was taken
to uphold transparency in the healthcare sector and to recognize the critical
role of the media.
“The media has always commanded respect in our eyes. I am
halting the implementation of the media management guidelines for now. Any
future decisions will only be taken after proper consultation with media
representatives,” said Minister Jaiswal.
His move has been warmly welcomed by journalists, with the
Chhattisgarh Journalist Union expressing gratitude and appreciation for the
minister’s prompt and thoughtful action.
