Janjgir-Champa: The workers of Nuvoco Vistas Corp Ltd. Cement and Packing Plant at Arasmeta, Gopal Nagar, have elected a new leadership body for their INTUC (Indian National Trade Union Congress) unit. Prominent labor leader Dilip Kumar Verma from Chhattisgarh has been appointed as the President of the restructured union.
Joining him in leadership roles are Vyas Narayan Ratre
as Vice President, Purushottam Rai as General Secretary, and Chintamani
Dongre as Advisor, along with Chitendra Verma, Thanwar Verma, and Radhey
Shyam Bhatpahare. The position of Treasurer has been given to Lal Lahariya,
while Jamuna Prasad Ogrey will serve as Secretary. The executive
committee also includes members Itwari Khadekar, Jagmohneswar Ratre,
Jogendra Ogrey, Shatrughan Banjare, Ajit Sonwani, Naresh
Banjare, Komal Khandekar, and Rajesh Nayak.
During the announcement, newly elected union president Dilip
Kumar Verma strongly condemned the alleged exploitation of workers at the
plant. He claimed that laborers are not being given consistent work throughout
the month and that the Factory Act of 1948 is being blatantly violated
by the plant management. Verma alleged that the company is functioning
arbitrarily, without regard for labor rights or legal compliance.
Issuing a stern warning, Verma stated that if the company
fails to amend its behavior and uphold workers’ rights, the union will be
forced to initiate a strike, supported by regional labor federations.
The union plans to rally collective action unless prompt measures are taken to
address the grievances of the workers.
This development underscores growing unrest among the industrial
workforce in the region, as labor rights and fair employment practices become a
central issue in the functioning of private industrial units.
