Covid-19 India Live Updates: Active Cases Cross 5,700; 4 Deaths Reported in Last 24 Hours

New Delhi, June 8, 2025:
India has witnessed a fresh uptick in Covid-19 cases, with the total number of active infections rising to 5,755, according to the latest data released by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW). In the last 24 hours, the country has reported four Covid-related fatalities, one each from Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Maharashtra.
Kerala Remains the Most Affected State

Kerala continues to bear the highest Covid-19 burden, with over 1,800 active cases as of Sunday morning. The state is followed by Delhi, Gujarat, and West Bengal, where cases have shown a gradual rise. Delhi alone reported 73 new cases in the past 24 hours, pushing its total active caseload to 665.

Nationwide, 760 patients were reported cured, discharged, or migrated within the same period, showcasing continued recovery efforts.
What’s Driving the Rise in Covid-19 Cases?

The latest surge is being attributed to new Omicron sub-variants such as JN.1, NB.1.8.1, LF.7, and XFC. These variants, while highly transmissible, have generally caused mild symptoms. The World Health Organization (WHO) has listed these under the category of "Variants Under Monitoring," suggesting that while not currently dangerous, they require close observation.

Health experts emphasize that while Covid-19 has evolved, it has not disappeared. Instead, it is becoming a seasonal illness, much like the flu, requiring ongoing vigilance but not causing public panic.
Gurgaon Reports 10 New Cases, District Tally at 36

In Haryana, Gurgaon reported 10 fresh Covid-19 cases from 315 samples tested on Saturday. This brings the district’s active case count to 36. The health department confirmed that all patients are in home isolation, and no Covid-related deaths have been recorded in the state during the latest wave.

Of the new infections in Gurgaon, only one case involved a travel history — a 31-year-old resident of Sector 73. Authorities reiterated that the situation remains under control, with most patients showing mild symptoms.
