Sonia Gandhi Undergoes Medical Tests in Shimla After High Blood Pressure Complaint

Shimla | June 7, 2025
Senior Congress leader Sonia Gandhi was taken to the Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) Hospital in Shimla on Saturday after she complained of high blood pressure, officials confirmed. Gandhi, 78, was on a personal visit to the hill town, accompanied by her daughter Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.

Dr. Aman, Deputy Medical Superintendent at IGMC, said that Mrs. Gandhi underwent a series of routine tests. “Her blood pressure was slightly elevated, but all other parameters were within normal range. She was discharged soon after the check-up,” he said.

The visit to the hospital was described as precautionary. Naresh Chauhan, media advisor to the Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister, stated, “It was a routine check-up following a complaint of high blood pressure. She is fine now and has returned home.”

According to hospital sources, Gandhi’s medical evaluation included basic diagnostic tests. No serious health concerns were noted.

The former Congress president had arrived in Shimla earlier this week and is currently staying at her daughter’s residence in Chharabra, located on the outskirts of the city.

Gandhi’s brief hospital visit led to some security arrangements around the hospital, though party sources emphasized there was no cause for concern regarding her health.
