Revolutionary Taxi Drivers' Union president Sanjay Singh Ratnu stated that a meeting was held with Deputy Chief Minister Premchand Bairwa, who assured a prompt resolution. However, the strike and protest will continue until the assurance is turned into a concrete decision.
The cab drivers' strike in the capital city Jaipur has entered its fourth day today. Over 5,000 cabs are off the roads, causing major inconvenience to the general public. On Friday, under the banner of the Revolutionary Taxi Drivers' Union, hundreds of cab drivers staged a strong protest at Shaheed Smarak. The union’s state president, Sanjay Singh Ratnu, stated that despite submitting multiple memorandums to the government, no concrete action has been taken on their demands.
Key Demands:
-
Amendments in transport regulations
-
An end to the strict actions being taken against drivers
-
Curb on illegal taxi operations by private vehicles
-
Safety and permanent identification for cab drivers
Sanjay Singh Ratnu mentioned that a meeting was held with Deputy Chief Minister Premchand Bairwa, who assured an early resolution. However, the strike and agitation will continue until the assurance is turned into an official decision.
Warning of Road Blockade
The cab unions have decided to soon initiate a road blockade (chakka jam) in the capital. Ratnu clarified that the protest will remain peaceful, and no driver will be allowed to take the law into their own hands.
During the strike, reports of disputes between auto and cab drivers have surfaced at several locations. However, Ratnu emphasized that no cab driver from their union has misbehaved with any auto driver, and if such an incident has occurred, it will be condemned.
