Jaipur/Ajmer:
In welcome news for residents of Jaipur and Ajmer, water inflow has
begun into the Bisalpur Dam, the primary source of drinking water for
the two cities. For the first time this monsoon season, the Triveni
River has started flowing, leading to a rise of 3 cm in the dam’s
water level today.
According to engineers from the Water Resources
Department, the dam's level has increased from 312.47 RL meters to
312.50 RL meters. The Triveni River, currently flowing at 2.40 meters,
has begun supplying water to the dam after recent rainfall.
Officials noted that consistent rains over the past
few days in the catchment areas—including Bhilwara, Sirohi,
Rajsamand, and Ajmer—have revived river flow, kickstarting water inflow
into Bisalpur.
Last Year, the Dam Reached Full Capacity
In the 2024 monsoon, heavy rains led to the dam
filling to capacity. The administration even opened the dam gates to release
excess water. The full capacity of Bisalpur Dam is 315.50 RL meters.
Lifeline for Jaipur, Ajmer, and Tonk
The Bisalpur Dam supplies drinking water to nearly 90%
of Jaipur and Ajmer’s population. It also serves parts of Tonk district,
where in addition to drinking needs, water is used extensively for irrigation.
In Jaipur alone, over 450 MLD (Million Liters per Day)
of water is drawn daily from the dam. This recent inflow is expected to ease
water concerns in the coming weeks and provide much-needed relief to residents
relying on the dam.
