Youth Congress Protests in Jaipur Demanding Revival of Chiranjeevi Scheme; Clash with Police at Collectorate
Youth Congress workers staged a strong protest outside the Jaipur Collectorate on Friday, demanding the reinstatement of the former Congress government's flagship Chiranjeevi Health Insurance Scheme. Tensions escalated when police stopped the protestors from entering the collectorate premises, leading to a confrontation.
State Youth Congress spokesperson Ravi Kumar Sikdar alleged that the Bhajanlal Sharma government discontinued the Chiranjeevi scheme soon after coming to power, which has severely impacted the treatment of patients suffering from serious illnesses.
Angered by being blocked at the gate, protestors climbed the collectorate’s entrance and raised loud slogans. Police and administrative officers intervened to calm the situation. Later, a Youth Congress delegation met Collector Jitendra Soni and submitted a memorandum.
According to Sikdar, the protest was led by Rakesh Saini (Jaipur City Youth Congress President) and Dharmveer Payala (Jaipur Rural President), and demanded the reimplementation of the scheme along with an increase in insurance coverage to ₹25 lakh. However, police stopped them at the gate, triggering the clash.
Sikdar warned that if the government fails to revive the scheme, Youth Congress would launch a statewide agitation.
Prominent leaders present at the protest included State Vice President and Divisional In-Charge Ashish Bairwa, Vice President Pooja Bhargava, General Secretary Kartar Gurjar, Rahul Yadav, State Secretary Moolchand Mehla, District Vice President Girraj Chaneja, Malviya Nagar Assembly VP Preeti Maurya, Vandana Verma, Vimlesh Verma, Navratan Meena, and many other members and office-bearers.
